Definitely not a finished product yet…or ever.

You need to stay restless, curious, relevant, different and better.

Wrestling legend Rowdy Roddy Piper used to say “just when you think you have all the answers, I change the questions”.  Well, when you think you have all the answers to life and career, the questions always change.   Doesn’t matter how much experience you have in your profession or years in the rearview mirror of life, you always need to stay restless, curious.   You need to keep challenging yourself to learn and get better across many fronts.

I’m not preaching something I don’t practice.   For years I’ve been saying that I need to look outside of myself for answers to the new questions.  Call it my constant pursuit of being relevant, different and better.  I made the commitment a year ago to do the following:

  • Work with an executive coach: This is long-overdue and will help me fine-tune my leadership skills, get my mind and actions in-synch and, hopefully, once and for all put an end to my impostor syndrome.
  • Consult a personal social branding expert: I need an objective point-of-view on whether what I’m presenting on LinkedIn is reflective of who I am and where I want to go.
  • Explore ideas and opportunities: I’m working with a trusted peer and marketing organization to stay on top of emerging customer engagement and marketing trends, tools and technologies and to learn how to best apply them for my benefit for my customers’ benefit.
  • Keeping it real: Time for a new profile picture.  The current one is 3 years old and it’s very important for people to see me for who I am now, figuratively and literally.

I’m doing these things because I’m not in the final act of my career…not by a long shot.  Plus, the moment you say that you’ve learned all you need to know is
